Its architecture is classic cinder block and plastered.

Saint Germain du Puy is located on the site of human gatherings of which one finds trace before the year 1000. Baptized "Sanctus Germanicus de Podio" in 1210, its name was transformed over the centuries to become Saint Germain du Puy in the 17th century. Eighth commune of Cher, it counted 1810 inhabitants in 1968. Since then, it has experienced significant growth, but without excess, and today has 4954 inhabitants according to the last census of 2006. Most of them are grouped together in the "village" located on both sides of the RN 151, a national road which has also become one of the most important commercial axes of the department.

Saint Germain also has a few "écarts", the most important of which is "Fenestrelay" which extends towards Bourges along the Yèvre valley.
