Probably a personnel truck, or a small first response/fire extinguisher truck, this is a 1939 Chevy 3/4 ton.

We happened to spy this Chevy at the southeast corner of the intersection of Main Street and Central Avenue in downtown White Sulphur Springs. Several mounted fire extinguishers, the lettering W.S.S.F.D No.2, and other related accoutrements revealed its heritage as a one time active apparatus of the White Sulphur Springs Fire Department, later known as the Meagher County Fire Department. Though it likely spends most of its retirement parked at the Meagher County Fire Department, a block north and a half block west, it had, not long prior to our visit, been parked at this location to advertise the Firemen's Pancake Breakfast, which took place on Father's day of 2017, a scant two days before our visit to White Sulphur Springs.

Running on 15" tires, the 1939s were powered by a 216.5 cubic inch, 6 cylinder, overhead valve engine rated at 78 horsepower at 3200 RPM. Behind it was a 4 speed non-synchronous transmission.

Railings down each side of the truck box indicate that this unit was often used to transport a number of firefighters to a site quickly, likely ahead of any pumpers or hose trucks.
Meagher County Fire Department
Meagher County Fire Department is located in White Sulphur Springs, a town of approximately 900 residents. It is a rural community, primarily cattle country with large hay fields. This area will not disappoint you, it has vast blue skies only as seen in Montana's Big Sky Country.

The fire department consists of three buildings. The main building closest to town hall has four bay doors, the smaller building has 2 bay doors and not too far distant is a larger blue building with four bay doors, office space and training rooms.

What drew our attention was the siren on top of a very tall iron tower between the two buildings. There are about 10 cones and it is primarily use for summoning the volunteer firefighters and emergency personnel.

Under the siren is an old McShane Bell Foundry bell dated 1901. Though it still has its clapper it does
