"The pet cemetery of Covas da Raposa, in the municipality of Ourense do Pereiro de Aguiar, is the first to be set up in Galicia and, at the moment, the only one that exists. There are companies that provide other services, such as crematoriums or niches for urns, but a cemetery, as such, only exists in Galicia. He founded a veterinary clinic to give the service to his clients, once they had to say goodbye to their pets.

The only thing that differentiates this cemetery from the ones we are used to seeing is the size of the niches. Many also carry their tombstone, last wishes and even some flowers.

Héctor Gómez, veterinarian of Anicura Abros: "People who put the tombstone on him, who come periodically to bring him flowers, his favorite toy... they come here, they stay with them as long as they need, and it's a way to remember them."

In one of the graves lies Abritos, the pet of the veterinary clinic that founded the cemetery. He lived with them for over fifteen years and is still listed on the website as the company's public relations.

"This cat arrived at the clinic after being run over in 1997, at only two months old, we managed to get him out and he lived with us until 2013", comments Héctor.

They founded the cemetery in 1999, to give an alternative to families who didn't know what to do when they said their last goodbye to their pets.

"Buff. It's very sad: you get home and you were used to him being there, coming to greet you... and suddenly he's not there. Their things are there, but the pet is not there», comments Ofelia, owner of a pet.

Like the rest of the cemeteries, the one for pets needs a municipal license and must meet a series of conditions, from a minimum distance with respect to houses and river courses to the registration of all burials.»
