Opened on Dec 1933 as the closest station to the Tokyo Imperial Household Museum, the Tokyo Science Museum, the Ueno Zoo, the Tokyo Music School, the Tokyo School of Fine Arts, and the Second Tokyo Municipal Junior High School.

Due to aging and declining ridership, the station closed in 1997 and was discontinued in 2004.

The station building and platform still exist, and Keisei Electric Railway renovated them and opened them to the public in the fall of 2018.
