This beautiful Gothic-style Catholic Church was constructed in 1883 of local brown sandstone. The steeple is 154 feet high, and was for some time the tallest structure in the city. A lightning strike in 1916 caused a damaging fire, but the walls, steeple, and stained-glass windows survived. In 2003 another bolt of lightning struck the steeple; the fire was contained but water damage to the interior was extensive. The Church has since been completely renovated.
