Probably built in the 17th century, the Hermitage of Castañuelo is located to the east of the municipality, on the old royal road that connects Jubrique and Estepona. Possibly this coquettish hermitage, almost identical to that of El Chorrillo, the other hermitage in Jubrique, was built on top of an Arab mosque and was converted to Christian worship in honor of the Holy Cross.

After going up the stairs, we find an octagonal temple with a portico of pilasters and a curved top. The roof is a hemispherical vault crowned by a small pinnacle. Inside we find two niches and an altar with a green cross, saved from burning during the Spanish Civil War (1936-39), according to popular legend, thanks to the intervention of a pious resident of the municipality.

From the viewpoint there is a beautiful view of Jubrique and the deep valley excavated by the Monardilla river.
