If you’re shopping, dining or just strolling around Country Club Plaza in Kansas City, and need a rest, you can sit here and ask Benjamin Franklin about the Bill of Rights. But be careful where you sit as there are a couple of pigeons perched on the back of the bench.

The statue, carved by American sculptor George Lundeen and dedicated in 1990, celebrates the 200th anniversary of the adoption of the Bill of Rights in 1791. I’m not sure what role Benjamin Franklin played in the adoption of the Bill of Rights since he died in 1790, the year before it was adopted, but by all accounts, he would have been all for it.

The statue sits just outside of some shops on Jefferson St. - someone else who was in favor of the Bill of Rights.
