Boston & Albany Stone Arch Bridge #3 is one of four surviving keystone arch bridges of six bridges built by the Western Railroad Company through a deep gorge along the Westfield River to create a Boston & Albany Railroad connection the through the Berkshire Hills. The bridge was designed by architect George Washington Whistler and built of stone blocks without mortar in 1840. Collectively, they are known as the Whistler Stone Arch Bridges. The bridge was abandoned in 1912 and by-passed by a concrete arch bridge built 10' upstream. The keystone arch bridge is about 175' in length with a 50' span over the Westfield River.
