Fearing increased confederate activity in the Ozarks, Union officials assembled the Army of Southeastern Missouri in the winter of 1862.
Under the command of Brigadier General John W. Davidson, the mission of these soldiers was to improve roads & bridges across the region in anticipation of a raid in Arkansas. Around Christmas time, regiments camped on a ridge above Watercress spring overlooking the Current River.
If you do not have a camera you can e-mail me how many troops camped here?
