The inscription reads -
1760
BENE-
FACTIONS.
TO THE PARISH
OF EYAM.
Given formerly by a Person un-
known, Twenty Pounds, the Interest-
to be paid to the Poor of the Town-
of Eyam, on St. Thomas' Day. The-
Hon-ble Revd Edward Finch:D.D.
Rector of Eyam, gave a, handsome Set
of Communion Plate; Also Fifteen-
Pounds, the Interest to be paid to the-
Poor of the Parish, on St. Thomas' Day;
Also one Hundred Pounds to the-
School for teaching five Poor Children
of the Town of Eyam, and five of the out-
Hamlet, which together with Fifteen-
Pounds given by another Person, is-
laid out in the Purchase of Free-
hold Land in the Parish of Hope-
near Bradwell, called Long Meadow
now let at clear Yearly Rent of four Pounds.
THOMAS MIDDLETON.-
Gent. left five Pounds a Year, charged
upon two Pieces of Land called-
the upper and lower Lowes to-
be paid to the Schoolmaster, for
teaching ten Poor Children of the-
Town of EYAM to read & write.
