The Smithfield Blacksmith Shop is a part of the Smithfield plantation. Like most farms and plantations, a blacksmith shop is almost essential to operation. This one was no different which is why the building still exist today. No in operation today, but still open for tours.

Upon his death in 1783, a set of "Smith's Tools" were listed in Col WM Preston's estate. Blacksmithing kept the plantation's horses, mules & oxen shod and its numerous farming "utensils" in good working order.
