This sign is at one of the northern most entrance point to the moor, from Hob Moor Drive. The land is no longer a protected common but in May 2003 it was designated as a statutory Local Nature Reserve in recognition of its important expanse of wildflower-rich meadows.

In many ways the moor is still managed in the same way as before, cattle is allowed to graze between May Day and Halloween. No artificial fertilisers are used on the land and so the moor has mantained a diverse sward with ancient hedges at the borders.

The moor is home to many wildflowers, ground nesting birds, ancient hedges, trees and a large number of species of insects, more than is usually found imn such a small area.
