Vienna is in Fairfax County, Virginia. The first recorded house here was built in 1767 by John Hunter, who named it Ayr Hill after his hometown in Scotland.
When Dr. William Hendrick settled here in the 1850s, the town was renamed for his old hometown if Vienna, New York (now called Phelps, New York).
On June 17, 1861, an early Civil War skirmish, the Battle of Vienna, was fought here.
Vienna was the home of Robert Hansen, a former FBI agent convicted of spying for Russia.
