In the beginning, the Army established outposts in Japan in July 1895 by dispatching Colonel Edward Wright and 14 others to Japan. They landed at the port of Yokohama on September 4, dressed in kimonos, and held a missionary ceremony at the Christian Youth Hall in Kanda, Tokyo, on the 22nd of the same month.
