Estagel station is a French railway station on the line from Carcassonne to Rivesaltes, located on the territory of the municipality of Estagel, in the department of Pyrénées-Orientales, in the Occitanie region.
It was put into service in 1901 by the Compagnie des chemins de fer du Midi and the Canal Lateral à la Garonne. It is a rail stopover for the Train du pays Cathare et du Fenouillèdes, served by all the tourist trains of this association.
Railway situation
Established at an altitude of 80 meters, Estagel station is located at kilometer point (PK) 454.713 of the line from Carcassonne to Rivesaltes between the open stations of Cases-de-Pène and Maury1,2.
Story
Estagel was put into service on July 14, 1901 when the section between Saint-Paul-de-Fenouillet and Rivesaltes of the line from Carcassonne to Rivesaltes was opened.
The section between Quillan and Rivesaltes was closed to passenger traffic on April 18, 19393.
In 1992, the TPCF association was created and the first train ran in 20013. In 2011, the section between Saint-Paul-de-Fenouillet and Cases-de-Pène was reopened to freight traffic.
