NL Bij het Gemaal Verdoold in Gouderak staat een informatiebord. Dit 19e eeuws gemaal is in 2014 voorzien van een visvriendelijke pomp. De speciale waaiervormige bladen en trechtervorm stellen vissen in staat om het gemaal te passeren. Zo kunnen ze van de Hollandse IJssel naar de polders van de Krimpenerwaard zwemmen

Het GEMAAL "M. Verdoold Cz." is 1866 gesticht en is genoemd naar de toenmalige voorzitter van de polder Stolwijk. Het, in een eenvoudige Waterstaatsstijl vormgegeven, boezemgemaal is gebouwd op de Stolwijkseboezem bij Gouderak, vlakbij de Grote of Beneden Stolwijkse sluis, die voor het lozen van het water gebruikt werd. In die tijd had het gemaal nog een scheprad, aangedreven door een stoommachine met twee ketels. De capaciteit bleek op den duur toch onvoldoende zodat in 1879 werd besloten de aanwezige bemalingsmiddelen in de polder te vervangen door één krachtig stoomgemaal dat alle polders (Stolwijk, het Beijerse, den Agterbroek en Veerstalblok) rechtstreeks op de IJssel te Gouderak zou afmalen. Het oude gemaal in Gouderak werd hiervoor gemoderniseerd en voorzien van twee centrifugaalpompen, ieder gekoppeld aan een stoomwerktuig. De pompen werden ondergebracht in een, achter het oude gebouw aangebouwde, nieuwe machinekamer en mondden uit in een maalkolk die tussen het machinegebouwen het binnenfront van de uitwateringssluis gebouwd was. Na veertig jaar dienst te hebben gedaan werd in 1919 besloten het gemaal om te bouwen tot motorgemaal waarvoor twee tweecilinder Crossleyzuiggasmotoren werden geplaatst, ieder gekoppeld aan een centrifugaalpomp.

Zowel vóór (west) als achter het gebouw bevindt zich een maalkolk. Aan de polderzijde (oost) van het gemaal gaat de kolk over in een uitwateringssluis die echter door moderniseringen voor bescherming van ondergeschikt belang is. De half ellipsvormige gemetselde maalkolk voor het gebouw is omgeven door een ijzeren hekwerk met balusters. De gemetselde kolk aan de achterzijde heeft een eenvoudige balustrade. De voormalige houten kolenschuur die links voor het gemaal staat (noordwest) vervult typologisch gezien een beeldondersteunende functie. In 1950 zijn de zuiggasmotoren vervangen door elektromotoren.

The GRADE "M. Verdoold Cz." was founded in 1866 and is named after the then chairman of the polder Stolwijk. The pumping station, designed in a simple Waterstaat style, was built on the Stolwijkseboezem near Gouderak, near the Grote or Beneden Stolwijkse sluice, which was used for the discharge of the water. At that time, the pumping station still had a paddle wheel, driven by a steam engine with two boilers. The capacity eventually turned out to be insufficient, so in 1879 it was decided to replace the existing drainage resources in the polder with one powerful steam pumping station that would drain all polders (Stolwijk, the Beijerse, den Agterbroek and Veerstalblok) directly on the IJssel at Gouderak. The old pumping station in Gouderak was modernized for this and equipped with two centrifugal pumps, each coupled to a steam engine. The pumps were housed in a new engine room built behind the old building and discharged into a whirlpool that was built between the machine building and the inner front of the discharge sluice. After forty years of service, it was decided in 1919 to convert the pumping station into a motor pumping station, for which two two-cylinder Crossley suction gas engines were installed, each coupled to a centrifugal pump.

There is a whirlpool both in front (west) and behind the building. On the polder side (east) of the pumping station, the chamber turns into a drainage sluice, which, however, is of minor importance for protection due to modernisations. The semi-elliptical masonry vortex in front of the building is surrounded by an iron railing with balusters. The masonry chamber at the rear has a simple balustrade. The former wooden coal shed on the left in front of the pumping station (northwest) typologically fulfills an image-supporting function. In 1950 the suction gas motors were replaced by electric motors.
