A grave near the southeastern corner of Oakland Cemetery in Cranston, Rhode Island, at the third plot just north of and inside the loop road, contains two homemade markers -- one of plywood and the other thermoplastic -- for an interred named
Raymond.
The markers' forms are plain Christian cross that stands about 24 inches tall and 20 inches across with uniformly wide components, the wood cross having slightly smaller dimensions. They stand back to front a little over a foot apart, the wood to the north and plastic to the south.
The 1/2" thick plywood cross is weathered and bare, no applied finish apparent. Its inscription, exclusively letters and numbers, appears to have been made by laser engraving. The characters are very thinly outlined on the north face with the text descending the vertical and the digits running along the horizontal.
To its south, the second cross is cut from a sheet of white PVC about one inch thick. Both its front and back are engraved and laid out as above with the single name written vertically and dates horizontally:
RIP
RAYMOND
5/17/1945 - 12/27/2011
I was unable to find any biographical background in an online search that matched the limited personal information on the memorial crosses.
