Initially it was built to support the width of a normal road, but in 2008 the extension was inaugurated ( October 1 , 2008) which consisted of adapting it for a roadway to support the passage of a motorway ( A-8 ).
It gets its name from the two chapels that the estuary has on each side, that of San Román in Figueiras ( Castropol ) and that of San Miguel in Ribadeo .
The maritime activity was varied due to the construction of the Ponte dos Santos, affecting the conversion of passenger boats for tourist trips or limiting the height of the ships built in the shipyards.
On May 4, 2013, the Post Office issued a stamp with a face value of two euros with the image of the bridge
