[EN] The church of Saint-Août enters written history in 1115, mentioned in an official act of Pope Pascal II, describing the territories under the jurisdiction of the Benedictine abbey of Déols. The economic and religious influence of this powerful abbey is one of the keys to the history of the region from the 10th to the 16th century.

The parish of Saint-Août had a population of about a thousand, mostly scattered in the surrounding countryside. A representative of the lord of Saint-Chartier regulated civil affairs at the present location of the castle, and a priest appointed by the abbot of Déols regulated religious affairs at the location of the presbytery. The countryside was rich, and it was possible to build a permanent church where a first building had probably been erected on the burial site of a person from another age, Aygulfus, a hermit in these parts at the beginning of the 9th century. At that time, the parish was still only a clearing in the forest of Bommiers. He died as archbishop of Bourges, and his name, little by little transformed into that of Saint August, became that of the village where his relics were venerated. These relics are still in the church and attest the continuity of the parish life since its origins.

Of the primitive church of the XIIth century, remain the side walls and two curious capitals, at the birth of the vault at the front of the south wall, on which the primitive bell tower was supported. The tribune and the present coachman were added around 1860 in the extension of the nave. The three apses of the choir and part of the openings date from the same period. The three apses of the choir and some of the openings date from the same period. It was during the same campaign that the old tiled roof disappeared and a fir vault was placed over the nave.
