It's believed that the pub dates back to the 18th century and changed it's name from The Malt House to The Green Dragon in 1745.

"A dragon is a reptilian legendary creature that appears in the folklore of many cultures worldwide. Beliefs about dragons vary considerably through regions, but dragons in western cultures since the High Middle Ages have often been depicted as winged, horned, and capable of breathing fire." link

In fiction dragons are normally depicted as being green like the sign, whereas in heraldry in the UK dragons are normally red like the dragon shown on the Welsh flag.

This pub was refurbished in 2018 so it's not clear whether he old sign was of a heraldic style, or the more usual fictional style.
