NL In Nijkerk hebben we op onze vakantie de markt bezocht om een avondmaal bij elkaar te scharrelen. De markt werd gehouden in en rondom het Plein. Het is wel grappig, maar die straat komt ook voor in het Nederlandse monopoly-spel in de stad Den Haag. Een van de duurdere maar nog net wel rendabele straten.

Tot 1979 werd er elke maandagmorgen vee verhandeld op het Plein, midden in Nijkerk. Als herinnering daaraan werd het jaar daarop voor het eerst Boerenmaandag gevierd; een traditie die nog steeds wordt voortgezet. Op deze maandag in april ziet het Plein er weer even uit als vanouds, met koeien, schapen, tractors én een borreltje.

ENG In Nijkerk we visited the market on our holiday to grab an evening meal. The market was held in and around the Square. It's funny, but that street also appears in the Dutch monopoly game in the city of The Hague. One of the more expensive but still profitable streets.

Until 1979, cattle were traded every Monday morning on the Plein, in the middle of Nijkerk. As a reminder of this, the following year was the first Farmer's Monday; a tradition that continues to this day. On this Monday in April, the Square will look just like it used to, with cows, sheep, tractors and a drink.
