[FR] - Face antérieure :
Au sommet du monument, sous un ressaut formant voûte, un soldat est représenté allongé. Seuls son visage, son casque et sa main gauche apparaissent. Le reste de son corps est dissimulé dans les plis d’un drapeau qu’il tient contre lui et dont la pointe de la hampe avec le sigle “RF ” apparaît plus à gauche, au-dessus de la tête du soldat. avec une ornement pendant en direction du sol, mais ne débordant par sur l’inscription “PRO PATRIA 1914-1918”. Par contre la Croix de guerre qui pend en dessous du visage du soldat, qui de par sa position semble être dans le ciel recouvre elle partiellement le second A du mot PATRIA.
Sous cette inscription, les noms des morts accompagnés de l’initiale de leurs prénoms recouvrent l’essentielle de la surface du monument qui présente ainsi l’aspect d’une surface murale bien verticale. En bas, en relief devant la partie droite de ce mur une jeune femme et un enfant. La jeune femme chaussée de sabots, porte une robe longue à manches. Elle est coiffée d’un bonnet et un châle recouvre ses épaules. Elle tend de sa main droite un rameau d’olivier, vers le soldat qui se trouve dans le ciel. Son pied droit plus haut que son pied gauche accentue cette impression d’une progression vers le haut en montant sur la marche qui n’est autre que la base du monument. A la droite de la jeune femme, un enfant qui tout en ayant son visage tourné vers la jeune femme donne par sa posture l’impréssion de vouloir avancer dans le même sens que la femme. L’enfant est revêtu d’une blouse à col et d’un pantalon s’arrêtant au-dessus du genou. Il tient dans ses mains un bouquet. Au sol, aux pieds de l’enfant une palme de pierre gis sur la base du monument. A côté sont posées une palme de bronze et une croix de Lorraine en alliage cuivreux.
- Face postérieure :
en haut, le décor surmonté d’un cartouche ovoïde portant la date “11 NOVEMBRE 1918 ”, donne l’impression d’une tenture suspendue, alors que dans la partie basse une ornementation végétale semble monter. Deux rameaux, tel des bras, enserrent au centre l’inscription “AUX ENFANTS D’ARDENTES MORTS POUR LA FRANCE HONNEUR ET GLOIRE REGRETS IMPERISSABLES ET RECONNAISSANCE INFINIE ”. Cette inscription domine la composition végétale, d’où émerge un casque avec sa jugulaire.
Tout en bas à droite du panneau, les noms et fonctions de l’architecte, sculpteur et du maire ont été très lisiblement inscrits.
- en bas à droit derrière la jambe de la jeune femme le sculpteur a une deuxième fois laissé son nom sur le monument : “P. Joyeux”,
[EN] - Front side:
At the top of the monument, under a projection forming a vault, a soldier is represented lying down. Only his face, his helmet and his left hand are visible. The rest of his body is hidden in the folds of a flag that he is holding against him and whose flagpole with the acronym "RF" appears further to the left, above the soldier's head. The flag has an ornament hanging down to the ground, but does not overflow the inscription "PRO PATRIA 1914-1918". On the other hand, the War Cross hanging below the soldier's face, which by its position seems to be in the sky, partially covers the second A of the word PATRIA.
Under this inscription, the names of the dead accompanied by the initial of their first names cover most of the surface of the monument which thus presents the aspect of a vertical wall surface. At the bottom, in relief in front of the right part of this wall, a young woman and a child. The young woman, wearing clogs, is wearing a long dress with sleeves. She is wearing a bonnet and a shawl over her shoulders. She is holding an olive branch in her right hand towards the soldier in the sky. Her right foot is higher than her left foot, accentuating the impression of an upward progression as she climbs the step which is none other than the base of the monument. To the right of the young woman, a child whose face is turned towards the young woman gives the impression that he is moving in the same direction as the woman. The child is dressed in a blouse with a collar and pants that stop above the knee. He holds a bouquet in his hands. On the ground, at the child's feet, a stone palm lies on the base of the monument. Next to it are a bronze palm and a cross of Lorraine made of copper alloy.
- Back side :
At the top, the decoration surmounted by an ovoid cartouche bearing the date "11 NOVEMBER 1918", gives the impression of a hanging curtain, while in the lower part a vegetal ornamentation seems to rise. Two branches, like arms, enclose in the center the inscription "TO THE CHILDREN OF ARDENTES DEAD FOR FRANCE HONOR AND GLORY IMPERISSABLE REGRETS AND INFINITE RECOGNITION". This inscription dominates the plant composition, from which emerges a helmet with its chinstrap.
At the bottom right of the panel, the names and functions of the architect, sculptor and the mayor have been very legibly inscribed.
- At the bottom right, behind the leg of the young woman, the sculptor has left his name on the monument a second time: "P. Joyeux",
