De Sint-Machutuskerk is de parochiekerk van de tot de West-Vlaamse gemeente Heuvelland behorende plaats Wulvergem, gelegen aan de Sint Machutusweg 2A.

Geschiedenis

In de 15e eeuw werd hier een laatgotische hallenkerk gebouwd, welke in 1903 werd uitgebreid en van een doopkapel voorzien door Jules Carette. Tijdens de Eerste Wereldoorlog werd de kerk verwoest. Wederopbouw naar aanzien van de verdwenen kerk volgde in 1923 onder leiding van Marcel Hocepied. De kerk werd enigszins vergroot en de neogotische elementen die in 1903 waren aangebracht, werden nu weggelaten.

Gebouw

Het betreft een georiënteerde driebeukige neogotische hallenkerk met voorgebouwde toren met drie geledingen welke wordt geflankeerd door een zeskant traptorentje. Er zijn metselaarstekens aangebracht. De zijbeuken hebben een rechte sluiting en het hoofdkoor heeft een driezijdige sluiting. Het schip wordt overkluisd door een spitstongewelf. Het meubilair is neogotisch.

history

In the 15th century a late Gothic hall church was built here, which was extended in 1903 and provided with a baptistery by Jules Carette. The church was destroyed during the First World War. Reconstruction in respect of the disappeared church followed in 1923 under the leadership of Marcel Hocepied. The church was slightly enlarged and the neo-Gothic elements added in 1903 were now omitted.

construction

It is an oriented three-aisled neo-Gothic hall church with a pre-built tower with three sections, which is flanked by a hexagonal staircase turret. There are mason's marks. The side aisles have a straight closure and the main choir has a three-sided closure. The nave is covered by a pointed barrel vault. The furniture is neo-Gothic.

Au XVe siècle, une église-halle de style gothique tardif y fut édifiée, agrandie en 1903 et dotée d'un baptistère par Jules Carette. L'église a été détruite pendant la Première Guerre mondiale. La reconstruction dans le respect de l'église disparue suivit en 1923 sous la direction de Marcel Hocepied. L'église est légèrement agrandie et les éléments néo-gothiques ajoutés en 1903 sont désormais omis.

Construction

Il s'agit d'une église-halle néo-gothique à trois nefs orientées avec une tour préfabriquée à trois travées flanquée d'une tourelle d'escalier hexagonale. Il y a des marques de maçon. Les bas-côtés ont une fermeture droite et le chœur principal a une fermeture à trois côtés. La nef est couverte d'une voûte en berceau brisé. Le mobilier est néo-gothique.
