The bronze plaque on an angled stone base in the picnic area has the following information.
MILLGATE
PICNIC AREA
provided for the public by

The Rotary Club of Thirsk
to commemorate the Millennium

Supported by Yorventure

Land donated by
Wm. Calvert Esq;

Adopted by Thirsk Town Council
As well as picnic benches and other seating the area has been landscaped as a garden area. Because it is close to a car park it is a convenient place for visitors to the town to use.

The Rotary Club won an environmental award for the work they did on landscaping the park because the design is wheelchair friendly and the benches are made from recycled plastic.
