Wat is er nou meer RetroFuture dan een delorian zoals in de film back to the future. Deze stond deze week buiten voor het Evoluon tijdens de Dutch Disign Week.
Dutch Design Week (DDW) is een grootschalig en internationaal jaarlijks negendaags evenement in Eindhoven waarbij design in allerlei facetten centraal staat. Het evenement is het grootste designevenement van Noord-Europa, vindt jaarlijks eind oktober plaats en presenteert werk en concepten van ruim 2600 ontwerpers.
Verspreid over zo’n honderd locaties door de hele stad worden onder andere tentoonstellingen, lezingen, prijsuitreikingen, netwerkbijeenkomsten, debatten en festiviteiten gehouden. Enkele jaarlijks terugkerende onderdelen zijn de 'Graduation Show' met afstudeerwerk van de Design Academy Eindhoven en de expositie van de Dutch Design Awards.
DDW onderscheidt zich van andere designevenementen door zich te concentreren op ontwerpen voor de toekomst. Hoewel tijdens het evenement alle denkbare disciplines en aspecten van design aan bod komen, ligt de nadruk op experiment, vernieuwing en cross-overs. Bijzondere aandacht gaat jaarlijks uit naar werk en ontwikkeling van jong talent.
Programmalocaties zijn Strijp-S (waaronder het Veem, het Klokgebouw en Microlab), Sectie-C, de TU/e, het Designhuis, TAC (Temporary Art Centre), het Campinaterrein en tal van kleinere locaties in de binnenstad. Kenmerkend zijn de Design Rides, waarmee gratis van en naar Dutch Design Week locaties kan worden gereden.
Geschiedenis
Dutch Design Week ontstond reeds in 1998, destijds onder de naam Dag van het Ontwerp, waarbij ten doel gesteld werd om ondernemers en ontwerpers met elkaar in contact te brengen. Door de groeiende populariteit van het evenement werd de Dag van het Ontwerp in 2002 de Week van het Ontwerp. In 2005 veranderde de naam wederom, naar het huidige Dutch Design Week. Waar Dutch Design Week in 2002 nog begon met 20 deelnemers, waren dit in 2016 meer dan 400 evenementen verdeeld over 100 locaties, waaraan 2.500 ontwerpers deelnamen. Het evenement trok in 2018 zo'n 355.000 bezoekers uit binnen- en buitenland.

What could be more RetroFuture than a delorian like in the movie Back to the Future. This week it was outside in front of the Evoluon during the Dutch Design Week.
Dutch Design Week (DDW) is a large-scale and international annual nine-day event in Eindhoven in which design in all kinds of facets is central. The event is Northern Europe's largest design event, taking place annually at the end of October and presenting work and concepts from over 2,600 designers.
Spread over about a hundred locations throughout the city, exhibitions, lectures, award ceremonies, network meetings, debates and festivities are held. A few annually recurring elements are the 'Graduation Show' with graduation work from the Design Academy Eindhoven and the exhibition of the Dutch Design Awards.
DDW distinguishes itself from other design events by concentrating on designing for the future. Although all conceivable disciplines and aspects of design are discussed during the event, the emphasis is on experimentation, innovation and crossovers. Every year, special attention is paid to the work and development of young talent.
Program locations are Strijp-S (including the Veem, the Klokgebouw and Microlab), Sectie-C, the TU/e, the Designhuis, TAC (Temporary Art Centre), the Campina site and numerous smaller locations in the city center. Where Dutch Design Week started in 2002 with 20 participants, in 2016 there were more than 400 events spread over 100 locations, in which 2,500 designers took part. The event attracted around 355,000 visitors from home and abroad in 2018.
