Bijzondere van deze sluis is dat het een inundatie sluis is hiervoor zijn speciale deuren nodig, namelijk Waaierdeuren, Waaierdeurenzijn een eeuwenoud ontwerp van Jan Blanken voor de Hollandse waterlinie die hoog water van twee kanten kunnen keren en openen en sluiten zonder hydraulische of elektrische aandrijving, De lengte van de in 1862 gebouwde sluis bedraagt circa 20 m en de wijdte ongeveer 6,50 m.
