There has been a church here for at least 900 years but this one was erected around 1360.
The tower was renovated in 1883–1884 with Harehills Stone, which has now weathered almost black, in stark contrast to the creamy yellow of the rest of the exterior.
There is only one clock face on the tower, on the side facing Church Lane. It is painted black with Roman Numerals marking the hours and dots around the outer edge to mark the minutes.
The clock hands, hours and minutes are all painted gold.
