A life-size white stone statue of John Hamilton Gray stands on a circular stone base. A bearded Gray is depicted wearing a knee length overcoat, a waistcoat, trousers and shoe. He is standing with his right foot forward. His right arm is bent up and his right hand is under his chin. His left hand is under the elbow of his right arm.
A plaque on the circular base is inscribed:

and South Africa, Gray was the most well
travelled of the delegates. Despite initial
lack of interest, he became convinced
that federal union might be worthwhile.

John Hamilton Gray was born into a Loyalist family on June 14, 1811 in Charlottetown, PEI. He joined the British military in the 15th Foot, 13th Light Dragoons, the 15th Light Dragoons, the 1st Dragoon Guards, the 14th Light Dragoons, and the 7th Dragoon Guards.
Gray retired to Prince Edward Island in 1852 with the rank of colonel and quickly became involved in public life. He was elected to the provincial assembly and became a leading member of the opposition. Gray became the Tory leader in the assembly and when the Tories came to power, Gray was selected to lead the government.
Gray was Premier of Prince Edward Island from 1863 to 1865. He was chairman of the 1864 Charlottetown Conference, which laid the groundwork for the British North America Act of 1867. He supported the entry of the Island into Confederation.
