The Battle of the Atlantic occurred during World War II from 1939 to 1945, when Germany surrendered. This memorial honors the Canadians who sailed in convoys containing troops and supplies that traveled from from Sydney, crossed the Atlantic, and landed in the United Kingdom. During the treacherous journey the convoys had to contend with attacks by German U-boats, the German Navy and Luftwaffe.

A bronze plaque mounted on an panel set between the sides of a inverted U metal post is inscribed in English and French:

IN LASTING MEMORY OF THE COURAGE AND ENDURANCE OF ALL
THE CANADIANS WHO SAILED FROM SYDNEY WITH THE ATLANTIC
CONVOYS AND THE SACRIFICE OF THESE WHO DID NOT RETURN.
