On a manhole, a large wooden boat running on the sea with the wind in its sails, cutting through the waves.
This ship was called "Godairiki", means the Five Great Power Boats, active in the Edo period (1603-1867), and many of them came to and from the port of Funabashi.
They carried rice and other agricultural products within Edo Bay (today's Tokyo Bay). The term "Godairiki" is thought to have been taken from the Buddhist deity Godairiki Bosatsu (Five Great Bodhisattvas). The city tree, Camellia Sasanqua, is also used as a motif.
