Filsø was re-established in 2012 after being drained for agricultural land since 1852. Since then, birdlife, flora and fauna have rapidly returned and Filsø is called "The Botanical Miracle".
There are several bird towers around the lake. One of them is the Petersholm bird tower, located in the western part of the lake. There is access for wheelchairs, and binoculars in the bird tower make it possible to see the birds more clearly. Planches in the tower show the many birds you have the opportunity to see.
The first sea eagles built a nest at Filsø already in 2013.
There are also large flocks of swans, geese, ducks and wading birds as well as a number of exciting small birds. In fact, one can be lucky to see three different kinds of swans; Mute swan, Whooper swan and Bewick´s swan.
