The following text is a translation of the museum sign on site.
The Hyundai Pony 1 is the first unique model car independently developed by Hyundai Motor Company in Korea. As a vehicle that served as a stepping stone for independence and a leap forward in the Korean automobile industry, it played an epochal role in the development of automobile industry and technology. Production started in 1975, and in 1976, the first year of sales, it occupied 43% of the domestic passenger car market. Five cars were exported to Ecuador in 1976, making it the first domestic export passenger car. This vehicle was exported to New Zealand and the steering wheel is on the right side of the vehicle.
