Alabaster slab and brasses with arms of Richard Blackwell in St Michael & All Angels' church, Taddington.
Located in the south chantry Chapel of the Blackwall family, established of many centuries in the neighbouring village served by Taddington church.
Some conflicting information as to whom this slab is memorialising. There were several Richard Blackwells in the family. The slab is said to be dated 1505 [ref (

visit link) ] although the only Richard to have died in 1505 (
visit link) was not married to an Agnes. This Richard Blackwell was half-brother to Sir Richard Blackwell (d. 1495) (
visit link) whose wife was Agnes (nee Tunstead) (
visit link) (d. 1500). This would make sense, as it is said that after the death of her husband she took a vow of perpertual widowhood [ref. (
visit link) ]. It would also make it less odd to have the Tunstead arms also on the slab. (
