[EN]At the end of the 13th century, the castle belonged to the Counts of Auxerre. In the 16th century, the castle was rebuilt in several phases for the Etampes family. In the middle of the 17th century, the west wing was doubled, an east wing and a gallery of arcades closing the courtyard were built. In the 1770s, the southwest tower was built, the courtyard facade of the west wing was remodeled, the east wing was demolished, and the gallery was built to open the space to the landscape. The architect of the work was probably Joseph Abel Couture. In 1803, the castle was acquired by Talleyrand to receive distinguished guests, who had the interior decoration updated. The castle was preceded, on the north side, by a courtyard and an almost circular forecourt, of Renaissance composition. On the south side, there were two large buildings, finished by pavilions whose structure remains. The current composition takes the same layout. At the end of the 18th century, the outbuildings were fitted out in neo-classical style. The farm buildings were located to the north-east of the courtyard known as "des ronds". Most of the current farm buildings, as well as the farmyard buildings to the northwest, were built between 1705 and 1836. To the east, the stables were modified and enlarged between 1809 and 1811 for the princes of Spain, in exile in Valençay. Their rotunda layout is original. The venry was built at the end of the 19th century. To the southwest of the courtyard, the buildings were transformed at the request of Napoleon, between 1808 and 1811, to create a theater intended to entertain the princes. It is an Italian stage, decorated in the antique style.
