Women’s softball made its debut at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. Eight countries fielded teams with the United States taking home the gold, China the silver and Australia the bronze medals. All games were played at Golden Park in Columbus, a little over 100 miles from Atlanta.
Golden Park was built in 1951 and named after local industrialist Theodore Earnest Golden. For most of its life, it has been the home of several different Minor League baseball teams, mostly single A or double A.
