I don’t know how you determine something as subjective as ‘the most beautiful spot on earth,’ but the Logan Pass area of Glacier National Park in Montana would have to get some consideration - if only because it doesn’t matter which way your head is turned. At 6646 ft, Logan Pass is the highest elevation on the Going-to-the-Sun Road which traverses the park from the communities of West Glacier to St. Mary on the eastern side. There is no effort made to keep the Going-to-the-Sun Road open during the winter months due to the buildup of snow. The season for visiting Logan Pass is typically from June (sometimes late June) to mid-October.

The view on the stamp is to the north, up the valley between the Lewis and the Livingston Ranges. The mountain peaks shown on the stamp, which are a little off in the distance, are the Stoney Indian Peaks, Mount Kipp and Cathedral Peak, all in the Lewis Range. These are the same peaks that appear on another U.S. postage stamp, an airmail stamp issued in 2012. This stamp was one of fifty different designs, one for each of the fifty states, issued in 2002 and meant to resemble vintage ‘Greetings from…’ post cards.
