The Dionaea muscipula, was the plant of the month some time ago and the website had a special feature on it:
"What is the best location?
Carnivorous plants like full sun. It is best to mimic a swamp environment because these plants thrive in acidic, moist potting soil
In winter, the traps of the plant wither. Don't panic, they will appear again in the spring.

How should I maintain my carnivorous plant?
These plants do not need plant food because they catch their own food. Carnivorous plants prefer to drink rainwater, distilled water or soft tap water. Remove dead brown leaves and calyxes to prevent mould. Repotting these carnivores is best every other year, in the spring.

Origin
In the wild, carnivorous plants grow in fairly moist areas with nitrogen-poor soil, such as swamps. Nepenthes does that in Southeast Asia, Venus flytrap and Sarracenia come from North America, and sundew grows on all continents except Antarctica."
