The company was established in 1994, when founder Alan McGillivray started offering to take people whale watching on a single boat after delivering mail to local islands in the morning. Prince of Whales has since grown to become the largest whale watching company in the region.
The Prince of Whales fleet consists of ten 30-foot open-air Zodiacs (the "Royal Fleet of Ten"), two 60-foot cruisers, and three 80-foot catamarans.
Tours will take passengers to wherever whales have been sighted in the local waters, including the Strait of Juan de Fuca, Haro Strait, and the adjacent waters. The most common whales to see are the endangered southern resident killer whales, transient (or Bigg's) killer whales, and humpbacks. Harbour seals, Steller and California sea lions, and harbour porpoises are also frequently spotted.
Zodiac tours are offered year-round, with hourly departures depending on demand. Cruiser and catamaran tours are offered from March to November.
