Parque das Ruínas (Ruins Park) is a public park with an art gallery built around the ruins of a mansion, located in the Santa Teresa neighborhood. The site was the residence of socialite and multimillionaire heiress Laurinda Santos Lobo, and was a haven for artists and intellectuals in the early 20th century. In 1993, after 40 years of abandonment, Rio de Janeiro's state government purchased the site and constructed this park around the ruins. The old mansion is accessible through steel walkways (none of the original floor remains) and the rooftop offers a stunning vista of Rio.
