The Largo do Boticário (Apothecary's Square) is a square in the Cosme Velho neighborhood of the city of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. The square can be reached by the Beco do Boticário (Apothecary's Alley), that passes by the Carioca River. The area is characterized by large, neo-colonial houses and Atlantic Forest vegetation.
The defining features of the square appeared in the 1920s with the construction of stately neoclassical homes. Preservation efforts began in the 1960s, and many of the homes were refurbished with authentic period materials recovered from demolitions elsewhere in the city. The site is now a public park, administered by the city.
This square is one of the few places in Rio where one can view the Carioca River, which is mostly underground. The square was also used for a scene in the 1979 James Bond film Moonraker.
