This Commemoration plaque is located near the Snoqualmie Falls in Snoqualmie, Washington. The plaque honors fifty years of service in the reduction of forest fires thanks to the creation of the Clarke-McNary Act, which was started here in 1923. This plaque was placed on May 12th, 1975.
The Clarke-McNary Act was a piece of legislation named for Representative John D. Clarke and Senator Charles McNary. The act gave the Forest Service an easier way to buy land for the national forests and the United States Department of Agriculture began to work with private landowners to reforest their areas by providing forestry assistance and distribution of seedlings.

"FIFTY YEARS OF SERVICE
Here, in 1923, members of the
UNITED STATES SENATE,
UNITED STATES FOREST SERVICE,
and the Northwest forest landowners
agreed upon the principles embodied in
the CLARKE-McNARY ACT of June 7, 1924
for the cooperative forest fire
protection of state and private lands.
This plaque commemorates fifty years
of successful cooperation in the
reduction of wildfire on forest
lands, the primary factor to
successful management of the
renewable forest resource.
