Durant la 1ere guerre mondiale, un convoi de plusieurs centaines de blessés arrive à Niort le 11 septembre 1914 à 22h, tous les hôpitaux sont complets. 756 blessés sont conduits à l’Hôtel de Ville où, faute de lits, ils sont couchés sur de la paille dans la salle des mariages et dans deux autres salles du rez-de-chaussée ainsi que dans la salle des fêtes du 1er étage et dans les galeries du second.

During the 1st World War, a convoy of several hundred wounded arrived in Niort on September 11, 1914 at 10 p.m., all the hospitals were full. 756 injured were taken to the Hôtel de Ville where, for lack of beds, they were laid on straw in the wedding hall and in two other rooms on the ground floor as well as in the village hall on the 1st floor and in the galleries of the second.
