Gilbert's Downtown Heritage District just got more colorful with the addition of two new traffic signal cabinet murals along Gilbert Road.
The project is part of an effort to increase public art in the District.

The front panel of my design highlights the historic Gilbert Water Tower, a town icon. Since Gilbert primarily flourished as an agricultural community, I included alfalfa and cotton, two of the town's staple crops, as well as hay, calling back to Gilbert’s history as the 'Hay Shipping Capital of the World' until the late 1920’s.
The back panel features vibrant cactus flowers in bloom alongside a roadrunner. I felt that the roadrunner, a symbol of speed, strength and stamina, represents Gilbert’s quick and continual growth.
The two side panels of the design feature Arizona wildflowers, such as lupine, coneflower, and globemallow, along with cactus blooms and succulents. These highlight the abundant colors that our desert offers, as well as the variety of flora in the state.
