It reads -
THE BENEFACTORS, TO THE POOR
The gift of Richard Ward, Gent, Late of sand Hut-
ton in the County of York, who by his last Will taking
date the ninth Day of May 1674, Gave the summ of fifty
pounds which is laid out in Land Called the White lands
the Little Bank, The Acre, and the Cupboard, the Income of
the said 50 pounds is to be employed for the Teaching of the
poorest children in the said Parish: until they can read the
English Bible or at least the new Testament.

ELLEN BIRCH. Spinster Late of this Parish
gave the summ of ten Pounds, which is now in the
hands of the Trustees: , the income of which is
to be distributed on St Thomas Day by the Discreti-
on of Mt Thomas Ward and Mr John Ward.

The Reverand Mr Ashton whoi by his last Will
taking date the ninth Day of October 1722 Gave the
summ of twenty shillings yearly to be distributed to
the poor on St Johns Day as the Minister and church
wardens shall Direct.

The gift of Elizabeth Vnitt Gentlewoman: who by
her last will taking date in the Year of our Lord
1749 gave the Summ of ten shillings yearly to be
distributed on St Thomas Day, to the Poor of this
Parish for ever, as the Minister, and Churchwardens
shall think Proper: And Land security for the same
in the Parish of Stone.

William Vnitt Gent. Late of Stone by his last Will taking date
in 1780 gave the Sum of ten shillings yearly to be Distri-
buted on St Thomas Day to the Poor of this Parish for
ecer as the Minister and Churchwarden shall Direct.

This board was restored and hung by the order of W.H. Dunning, Vicar, in the Year 1896.


For the curious, £50 back in 1674 would be the equivalent of £6,700 in today's money, as was gifted by Richard Ward, and Ellen Birch.
The 20s 0d given by The Rev.d Ashton in 1722 would be equivalent to around £150
