FR Pierre et Guillaume JOURDAN ont donné leur nom au village de La Bastide des JOURDANS.
En 1236 le Comte de Forcalquier fait donation de ce lieu fortifié à ses vassaux Pierre et Guillaume Jourdan en contrepartie de l'établissement d'un poste de péage à destination des marchands circulant entre Forcalquier et Aix-en-Provence.
Le château avait vocation à servir de refuge à la population en cas de danger. Les maisons s'y sont agglutinées autour et la population s'y est entassée car l’espace y est rare.
Puisque chaque mètre carré était compté, l'église Saint Pierre aux liens construite au XIIIème siècle a été placée à l’extérieur de l'enceinte fortifiée. Vous pouvez la visiter en demandant la clef à l’atelier de céramiques de Nicole de la Bastide, au n°6 de la rue au dessus de l'église, ou en suivant ce lien https://youtu.be/68rYEHqfGuQ qui vous en donnera un aperçu.
On note, sur le mur sud, des gargouilles.
EN Pierre and Guillaume JOURDAN gave their name to the village of La Bastide des JOURDANS.
In 1236 the Count of Forcalquier donated this fortified place to his vassals Pierre and Guillaume Jourdan in return for the establishment of a toll station for merchants traveling between Forcalquier and Aix-en-Provence.
The castle was intended to serve as a refuge for the population in case of danger. The houses have clustered around it and the population has crowded there because space is scarce.
Since every square meter was counted, the church of Saint Pierre aux liens built in the 13th century was placed outside the fortified enclosure.
