In 1990, the city of Conyers, GA, located a 1000+ acre tract of land that they wished to develop for land application purposes. Around that same time, the city of Atlanta was awarded the 1996 Summer Olympic Games and needed a venue to host the Olympic equestrian events. This win-win situation resulted in the Georgia International Horse Park.
During the 1996 Olympic games, well over half a million spectators watched the equestrian competition which was dominated by Germany who took four of the six gold medals awarded. Besides the equestrian events, the new horse park also hosted the first ever Olympic mountain biking competition.
Today, the Georgia International Horse Park continues to host regional and international equestrian events as well as concerts, fairs, festivals, rodeos, dog shows and corporate outings. There is also a hotel and an Arnold Palmer designed golf course on the premises.
