“We risk our lives to save, That you not slip beneath the waves.” Daniel J. Muellerleile
The “To Save” Poem-Sculpture is located along the Grand River Channel in Grand Haven.
The work is dedicated to:
The men and women of the Coast Guard and Law Enforcement, who risk their lives to save us from the great waters.
Artist’s vision:
To capture the instant of salvation, the last throw of a “life ring” by a turn of the century Life Saving crew.
The abstract mechanical human figures represent the “machines” they must become to conquer their fears. Their training and courage allow them to overcome physical and emotional peril to save a complete stranger.
To read the poem; Start at the starboard aft (right rear side) oar and read counter clockwise.
