Father and son
Patrick Tuite and
Robert Tuite are buried at
Saint Patrick's Cemetery in the village of Valley Falls in southern Cumberland, Rhode Island. Their graves are marked by a modest zinc headstone near the center west part of the cemetery approximately 150 feet east northeast from High Street at its junction with Church Street. The hollow cast white bronze marker with a pointed top was in good condition the day of my visit, though the north side had sunk a few inches into the ground. It stands 40 inches tall and 28 inches wide.
The rear plate insert bas relief design is a log cross wrapped in a vine. The family name appears along the base's front bottom edge. Atop the front plate inscription a pair of winged angels pray on bended knee and face one another. The clearly legible epitaph reads:
FATHER.
PATRICK TUITE,
1825 - 1875
---
SON.
ROBERT TUITE,
1860 - 1875
There are approximately 1,600 burials in this cemetery which is owned and maintained by St. Patrick's Church at 291 Broad Street in Cumberland.
