This statue of Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton is located at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, on the corner of 13th Street and 13th Avenue in Altoona, Pennsylvania. The statue is in a niche to the right of the main entrance to the Cathedral. It depicts Saint Elizabeth holding a book in her hand, with a rosary draped at her side. On the base of the statue it says, "St. Elizabeth Seton, Angel of the Schools."
Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton was born in 1774 in New York. After her husband died, she converted to Catholicism. In 1809, Elizabeth founded the Sisters of Charity and Saint Joseph's Academy and Free School in Emmitsburg, Maryland. She was canonized by Pope Paul VI in 1975, the first person born in the United States to be canonized.
