Two embossed doves on a memorial plaque for the fifty-two American citizens held as hostages, one for their capture on November 4, 1979, the other for their release on January 20, 1981.
The plaque reads: "Presented to Hillcrest Memorial Park, Hermitage, Pennsylvania by the Citizens of the Greater Scranton Area. To commemorate the enduring vigil created by the raising of an American flag on each day the fifty-two American Citizens were held hostage in the country of Iran. These flags serve to remind us of the strength of American Patriotism and dedication to our nation's goals and principles. This tablet will serve a permanent memorial to unyielding hope, love, and concern for mankind worldwide.
